Organic Soapberry Soapnut FAQs
- I've heard of Soapnuts, are Soapberries the same thing?
Yes, soapberries and soapnuts are interchangeable terms. We prefer to refer these wonderful berries as soapberries, as they are not actually a nut. - How do I know when I need to replace a soapberry?
The soapberry disintegrates and becomes paper like as the saponin is released into your wash water. As the saponin is released, the fiber of the soapberry is left behind in your muslin bag. It is these pieces that no longer contain saponin that you want to remove. These pieces of soapberry are completely compostable.
- Can I use half of a soapberry?
Yes. Our soapberries have the seeds removed from them, so that you are not paying for the part of the berry that does not contain saponin. In the pitting process, sometimes the berries break. It is still perfectly fine to use the halves--just use two to make one whole berry.
- What if I accidentally throw my soapberries into the dryer?
No problem! They are still usable, just extra dry. Take them out and use them over and over again until its time to replace them with new soapberries.
- Can I use bleach with soapberries?
Yes. The use of oxygen bleach will not interfere with the release of saponin into your wash water. - Do I need to use anything else for stain removal?
You should pre-treat any stains as you would have when using standard laundry detergent. - Where do SoBerry Clean’s soapberries come from?
These soapberries are purchased in bulk from India. We here at SoBerry Clean sort and package our soapberries for you. - Can I use fabric softener?
Yes. Although, soapberries act as a natural fabric softener, making it unnecessary to use fabric softener. - Can you use soapberries in a front load washing machine?
Absolutely. In fact, that is the exact type of washing machine we use our soapberries in. - Do I need to remove the soapberries for the rinse cycle?
No, it is not necessary to remove your soapberries for the rinse cycle.

- How do SoBerry Clean's soapberries do with cloth diapers?
Pre-soaking diapers, and then washing your cloth diapers in hot water with soapberries works wonderfully for babies with sensitive skin. Soapberries are wonderful for the environment, and completely safe for laundering the entire family's clothing.
- Do soapberries have a scent?
Soapberries leave your clothes smelling fresh and clean. If you prefer your clothes to have a scent, we recommend putting a dab of essential oil on a cloth and placing it in the dryer with your clothes when you dry them. Then, your clothes will come out smelling like whatever essential oil you choose. What a great way to take ownership over what your clothes smell like, rather than a big company dictating the smell of your laundry.
